This instructional video teaches finding major and minor chords on the piano. Western music centers primarily around major and minor chords. For major chords, start from the root and add a major third and a perfect fifth. For minor chords, start from the root and add a minor third and a perfect fifth. Notice that the only difference between these two chords is the type of third, major vs. minor. Don't try to learn chords only when a new song you're learning has a chord you don't know. Learn them all before. One trick to finding minor chords is to find the major chord for that root (which is usually easier) and move the middle note, the third, down a half-step. Some say the major chord has a happy sound while the minor chord has a sad or mysterious sound.
