Learning The Musical Alphabet (Beginning Piano Video)

Music is a language.  You need to know the letters and words and how it all fits together.  Just like we have writing styles - peotry, novels, haiku, etc - we have musical styles - classical, jazz, gospel, etc.  Don't be intimidated by how many keys there are.  There are only twelve notes.  This video teaches you the seven white keys that repeat across the piano.  The first key on the left for 88 key pianos is A.  The first note on the left for 61 note keyboards (like organs or smaller keyboards) is C.  The last note on both 88 and 61 note keyboards is C.  Don't worry about fingering.  One humerous note learning mistake many student, young and old alike, make is to say "a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h...".  Then they realize there isn't an "H" in the musical alphabet.  It's always a nice event to break up what can be such a boring start to learning your notes.  Notice the set of two and set of three black keys.  This will help you recall note locations quickly.

There are some great note learning exercises demonstrated in this video.  Read the article containing these exercises and more.
