What Are Sharps & Flats?

Watch a video to learn sharps & flats

The black keys are referred to as sharps and flats. The sharp symbol is #. The flat symbol is b.  As seen in the picture above, each black key actually has two names – a flat name and a sharp name.  For example, C sharp (C#) is the same note as D flat (Db).  Some white keys may also be considered sharps or flats!  For example, F could also be considered an E#.  Another example is Cb which is the same as B.
